A Thorough Examination is like the requirement of a MOT for your car. You are required to have one to be compliant. The Thorough Examination is a mandatory check required, and is a legal requirement for all lifting equipment and forklift trucks.

This is required under Health and Safety, and you have a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, of which particularly relates to the following 2 Health and Safety regulations; LOLER 98 and PUWER 98. LOLER 1998 which stands for Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 which cover the “lifting” elements. The other legislation is PUWER 1998 which stands for Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 which directly relates to the safety of the components for example the brakes or the tyres.

Allways Forktruck Services are fully CFTS (Consolidated Fork Truck Services) accredited to carry out Thorough Examinations in accordance with clear guidelines, adhering to above legislation.

We can assist with your requirement of having a Thorough Examination for your forklift truck or lifting equipment AT LEAST ONCE EVERY YEAR. However, depending on the environment your forklift truck is used in and/or the type of truck you have along with its use you may well need a more frequent Thorough Examination as stated in LOLER 98 Regulations.

So, who is ultimately responsible for having this Thorough Examination in place and undertaken? Well in the majority of cases it is simply the responsibility of the employer of the operator using the forklift truck, as they have the obligation under the Health and Safety at work Act for them to “ensure as far as reasonably practical the healthy, safety and welfare at work of all employees”
